PFUCTO seeks CM's immediate intervention on implementation of UGC pay scales
Babushahi Bureau
Chandigarh, June 27, 2022: The Punjab Federation of University and College Teachers Organisations (PFUCTO) represents the teachers of GNDU, Amritsar; PU, Chandigarh; PAU, Ludhiana; Punjabi University, Patiala; GADVASU, Ludhiana; Government Colleges and non-govt.
colleges of Punjab and Chandigarh, had just two days ago on June 25 warmly welcomed the much-awaited announcement on implementation of the UGC scales for the university and college teachers of Punjab by Bhagwant Singh Mann, Chief Minister, Punjab on the floor of the state assembly. But they were in for a huge disappointment when the Budget that was presented today failed to follow up on the matter.
Dr. Jagwant Singh, General Secretary, PFUCTO said, ‘The teachers of all the universities and colleges of Punjab, Chandigarh, and Himachal Pradesh were greatly relieved, and they felt enormously indebted and grateful to the CM for his much-awaited announcement on the early implementation of UGC pay- scales in HEI’s in Punjab in reply to the Governor’s address in the state assembly on June 25. But just two days later, we are extremely disappointed and highly confused because the Budget papers presented today in the state assembly make no mention of or provision for the implementation of UGC pay scales.’
Dr. H. S. Kingra, PFUCTO President added, ‘Moreover, the budget for the universities has been shockingly reduced by Rs.3 crores, whereas for govt.-aided colleges it has been increased by just Rs. 5 crores. This is grossly inadequate even to meet the presently committed expenditure.
We earnestly request the CM to immediately intervene in this matter and address this glaring anomaly and put to rest the concerns of thousands of teachers in higher education.’
