Drone dropped 3.5 kg heroin recovered near Indo-Pak border, BSF lodged protest with Pak Rangers holding Flag Meeting

Ferozepur, June 30, 2022: With the increased drone activities along the international Indo-Pak border, police and Border Security Force (BSF) in a joint search operation recovered 3.5 kg heroin dropped through a drone noticed during the night by the BSF troops.
Added here, the BSF has also started training to over 50 border villages along the Indo-Pak border on how to combat drones, which have been dropping firearms, explosives and narcotics at pre-designated locations in these areas. On Friday, such training was organized at Shameke BOP in Ferozepur Sector and had also announced a cash reward of Rs.1 lakh for helping in retrieving the material being dropped by drones.
Sometime back the jurisdiction of BSF was also enhanced upto 50 km inside the border with an aim to empower them in wake of the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and drones.
As per information, the security agencies are keeping an eye on ‘rags-to-rich’ stories in these villages as many individuals having NRI connects and political backing have raised luxurious houses in this belt rising many eyebrows.
Holding a joint press meeting, SSP Charanjit Singh Sohal and Udhay Partap Singh Chauhan, Commandant said, the security agencies are keeping hawk’s eye 24x7 and ready for any action during the night. Information was received from BOP Mabbo Ke 136 Bn BSF that a drone has been spotted during the night of June 28-29 between the pillar number 198/4 and 198/5. Noticing the sound and movement, BSF jawans fired 12rounds and two Ilu Bombs and drone left by dropping the suspected material. The entire was cordoned off by the BSF and police and during the search operation, one envelope was found in the field of Teja Singh of village Kalu Aria Hittar containing 5 packets wrapped in while colour tape, tied with black thread with hook, with liquid substance. On opening, two packets were found containing heroin of 1 kg each and in three packs of 500 gm each, with total recovery of 3.5 kg.
A case against the unidentified person was registered under NDPS Act Sections 21, 61 and 85 and further investigations are on. The network of those involved in smuggling will be exposed shortly after tracing, said SSP.
BSF commandant said, it was just a 90 second operation, after the firing and shot of Ilu Bomb. However, around a 10 km area is involved and the search operation will be carried out about the possibility of dropping the material at another place. Later, a written protest was also lodged with the Pak Rangers after holding a two-minutes Flag Meeting, he added.
