To express solidarity with the Nation in celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Independence Day, about 70,000 tricolour flags would be hoisted in the SBS Nagar district, said Deputy Commissioner Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa, here, today.
Exhorting the residents of the district, he said that the general public is free to hoist tricolour on their houses by adhering to the National Flag Code. As per the amendment made to the Flag Code of India, 2002, the National Flag may be flown day and night in open or on the house of any individual, by adding that the National Flag should be made of hand spun and hand woven or machine made, cotton/polyester/wool/silk/khadi bunting.
He further said that wherever the National Flag is displayed, it should occupy the position of honour and should be distinctively placed. Similarly, the National Flag shall be rectangular in shape and can be of any size but the ratio of the length to the height (width) must be 3:2.
DC NPS Randhawa said that the district development and panchayat officer has been designated as nodal officer for distributing the National Flag to the departments. He added that the district has received the required quantity of two sizes of National Flag, one in 20x30 inches while another in 16x24 inches size that would be sold out at the rate of Rs 21 (price reduced from Rs 25 per) and Rs 16.50 (Price reduced from Rs 18) respectively.
