Follow up: ‘Gangster’ branded on back – Read who has been booked on this account?
Ferozepur, August 18, 2022: A case of ‘gangster’ branded by engraving on the back of a prisoner has come to light when he was present in the court at Kapurthala on Wednesday. After investigation, the prisoner Tarsem Singh along with other prisoners has been booked under Prisons act as the jail authortoes claimed that fellow detenues engraved the word Gangster and not the police as alleged by him.
Divulging further details on the issue, Parvinder Singh, Superintendent Central Jail Ferozepur, said that prisoner Tarsem Singh alias Yodha, son of Satnam Singh, resident of Mirjapur police station, Dhillwan district, Kapurthala, who is incarcerated in this jail, and convicted in case number 23 dated 27-03-2017 Section 399/402/307 /148/149 I.P.C. And 25/54/59 Arms Act Thana Dhillwan District Kapurthala and 15 other cases under this jail as a detainee.
He further said, on August 10, the said reference was raised during the VC in the court of Court Rakesh Kumar Additional Sessions Judge Kapurthala and it was presented through an appearance. The prisoner requested the court for his medical treatment. On 12-08-2022, an e-mail was received from the Court ordering the medical check-up of the said prisoner. When this prisoner was asked for a medical check-up, this prisoner brought to our attention that the word ‘gangster’ was written on my back. When the prisoner's back was seen by the jail medical officer and prison officers, the word ‘gangster’ in Punjabi was found written on the prisoner's back.
Supdt. Jail informed that the matter was brought to the notice of Tejinder Singh Mour, DIG. Police (Jails) Ferozepur Circle on which when DIG visited the jail and asked the prisoner about this incident who verbally admitted that another prisoner had written these words behind my back. But after explaining something, this prisoner admitted his mistake and asked him to refrain from doing such a heinous act in the future. After this inquiry, on August 12, he was sent for medical check-up at Civil Hospital Ferozepur, then he admitted to the doctors of the hospital that he did not know who wrote it, now the prisoner is under treatment in Jail Hospital.
He further said, during the preliminary interrogation, the detainee Tarsem Singh had told that the word gangster was written behind his back by the jail employees. After which the barrack in-charge and the prison officer interrogated the prisoners living with him and no facts were revealed about the prison employees. Even watching the CCTV footage of the cameras and preliminary investigation reveals that the word gangster written on the back of the above prisoner was not written by the prison officers.
This prisoner wrote the word gangster from another prisoner and accused the officers/employees of the prison administration of obstructing the duty. However, a case under the Prisons Act 1894 was registered under No.0304 on August 17, 2022 on the written complaint to the SHO Police Station Ferozepur City against the prisoner.
Supdt. Jail said, in this way, this prisoner along with other prisoners has tried to defame the prison administration and the prison department.
Along with him on this occasion were Baljit Singh Vaid, Additional Superintendent, Shiv Chand Deputy Superintendent (Security), Yogesh Jain, Deputy Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent Karamjit Singh Bhullar (Welfare Officer), Line Officer Jarnail Singh, Assistant Superintendent Sukhjinder Singh Assistant Superintendent Rishavpal Goyal, Assistant Superintendent, Kashmir Chand, Assistant Superintendent were present.
