Plastic carry bag sellers and users to face music
Ferozepur, October 6, 2022: Now the using and selling single use plastic carry bags in the district could land you in trouble as a total ban was imposed on the sale of plastic carry bags and single use plastic bags by the government from Ist July, 2022. Today, raids at three wholesalers were conducted at Zira and 150 kg plasic bags were seized.
Sanjay Bansal, Executive Officer said a meeting was held on September 8, in this regard and detailed instructions were given about the banned plastic bags as per the notification issued by the government to the wholesale sellers and they were instructed to immediately remove the banned plastic bags and close the sales.
In this context, raids were conducted at various places in the Zira city by a team headed by Jugraj Singh, Superintendent Sanitation and Sukhpal Singh, Sanitation Inspector. They said, in the past large quantities of plastic waste was removed while cleaning the city as a part of the project but it is a worrying sign and we are planning a massive drive across the district.
During the checking, three shopkeepers were issued invoices and about 150 kg of single use plastic material was seized. Meanwhile, the municipal council team warned all wholesalers and shopkeepers to stop the use and sale of single use plastic.
Superintendent Sanitation said that this checking will continue continuously in the coming period. He said that if any person is found selling or using single use plastic material in future, then according to the rules, he will be challaned and a stiff fine will be imposed and the material will also be confiscated.
