Railways conduct awareness campaign on alarm chain pulling, arrest 1,929 chain pullers during 2021-22
Ferozepur, December 9, 2022: To prevent incidents of alarm chain pulling, special monitoring is being done by identifying the most affected trains, rail sections and railway stations through CCTV after analyzing the data of the previous year.
Under Section 141 of the Railway Act, 1,929 persons were arrested during the last and current year and about Rs 4.31 lakh was recovered by the Railway Protection Force in the year 2021 by arresting 865 persons and by the month of November 2022, by arresting 1014 persons, about Rs 3.73 lakh was recovered, said railway sources.
All coaches of each train are provided with alarm chains for the safety and security of passengers and should be used by passengers in case of emergency. Pulling of alarm chain not only stops the train but also affects its speed due to which trains run late resulting in delay in passengers reaching their destination. This causes a lot of inconvenience to the passengers. Due to the ever-increasing incidents of alarm chain pulling, an awareness campaign is being conducted by the ticket checking staff and Railway Protection Force personnel regarding chain pulling to the passengers. There is a provision of Rs 1000 fine or one year imprisonment or both for chain pulling without proper reason.
There are also incidents of unauthorized crossing of railway tracks between Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Beas, Amritsar railway sections in Ferozepur division, especially at Ludhiana and Dhandari Kalan. Such unwanted incidents cause loss of human beings. The wall has been built but in spite of this, efforts are made by the local residents to cross the railway lines by damaging the wall.
In this regard, a comprehensive awareness campaign is also run by the Railway Security Force, but the most important thing in this direction is that the local residents themselves understand the value of life and avoid unauthorized crossing of railway lines.
