General Categories Committee demand early appointment of Chairman, Category Welfare Commission

Chandigarh, January 28, 2023: A delegation of Joint Action Committee General categories Punjab met Baljeet Kaur cabinet minister at Patiala and submitted a memorandum to Baljeet Kaur Cabinet Minister seeking early appointment of Chairman Category Welfare Commission and supporting staff for the smooth functioning of the commission.
The Commission has been constituted to look after the interests of the general category.
The delegation was led by Jaswant Singh Dhaliwal Chairman GCWF PSEB (PSPCL/PSTCL), Kuljeet Singh Ratol President, and Sukhpreet Singh Secretary General.
They also requested her not to implement the 85th amendment in the state and stop reservation benefits to the creamy layer amongst SC/ST employees.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Notification 0f December 15, 2005, for implementation of the 85th amendment has already been quashed by Punjab and Haryana High Court due to non-compliance with conditions imposed by the Supreme Court.
V K Gupta Spokesperson recalled that the conditions imposed by Supreme Court have still not been complied with by the Punjab government.
The Federation further demanded that to collect the data on strength of SC/ST employees in services, the collection of data should be on cadre-wise and not as per roster point.
Punjab Vidhan Sabha Secretariat (WelfareCommittee) Chandigarh for has sought the data regarding the representation of SCs & BCs in Services and posts as performa based on roaster points instead of filled posts. The Federation has already given in writing to correct the format for the collection of data on the basis of filled posts, said Dhaliwal.
After hearing the viewpoint of the delegation, she assured the delegation that the necessary action will be taken on their demands.
