Vigilance Bureau arrests BDPO for demanding bribe from Sarpanch

Ludhiana, January 30, 2023: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested Ashok Kumar, BDPO, Sudhar for demanding a bribe from Sarpanch for are for releasing the payment of a grant on completion of development work in the village.
"On 30.01.2023, following a statement by one Lakhvir Singh, Sarpanch of village Boparai Kalan, District Ludhiana, before DSP, VB, Ludhiana, that Ashok Kumar, BDPO, Sudhar was demanding 20% share for releasing the payment of grant on completion of development work in his village and for issuing Utilization Certificate (UC), VB, Punjab registered a case FIR No. 3, dated 30.1.2023 u/s 7 PC Act of 1988 as amended by PC (Amendment) Act 2018 at PS Vigilance Bureau Ludhiana Range against the accused BDPO," read the statement issued by the Vigilance Bureau.
The complainant had alleged that the BDPO was earlier demanding Rs. 50000/-but later agreed to issue the UC bribe money of Rs. 25000/-.
In this regard, Ashok Kumar, BDPO was apprehended red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 25000/-. Further investigation in the case is ongoing.
