Dr. TS Kler to be honoured with Life Time Achievement Award by Punjab Academy of Sciences on Feb 07

Chandigarh, February 6, 2023: The Executive Council of the Punjab Academy of Sciences (PSC) has decided to confer the Lifetime Achievement Award upon a phenomenal Cardiologist, Dr. T.S. Kler, who has made noteworthy contributions in the field of Medicine, crafting an example for the generations of doctors to shadow.
He will be felicitated at 26th Punjab Science Congress National Conference on "Environment, Food Security and Health with the reference to Climate Change" to be held at Sri Guru Gobind Singh World University on February 7, 2023.
Dr T.S. Kler belongs to the village Amargarh, district Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab. He completed his schooling in his native village & surrounding towns. He pursued his MBBS from Patiala and his MD in Medicine and DM in Cardiology from PGI Chandigarh.
After a short stint in Saudi Arabia , He moved to UK, where he completed MRCP with flying colours.In 1989 he returned to India & was one of the founding doctors of Escorts Heart Institute & Research Centre, New Delhi since its inception.
Dr Kler did his Fellowship in Electrophysiology at Milwaukee, USA. & He is also credited with setting up of the first dedicated department of Electrophysiology and Pacing in India at Escorts Heart Institute in 1993. He worked 28 years at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi; last 12 years in the capacity of Executive Director.
Dr Kler has recently joined as Chairman of Fortis Heart & Vascular Institute, at Fortis Memorial Research Institute , Gurugram and Fortis Hospital, Vasant Kunj , New Delhi, where he has set up a state of the art tertiary care cardiovascular centre.
For his long-standing devotion, introducing new technologies in cardiology in India, Dr. Kler has been appointed as a member of various medical Societies. He is a member of Heart Rhythm Society (USA); Fellow of American College of Cardiology (FACC); Fellow of Royal College of Physicians (FRCP, UK).
He is a life time member of various Indian professional bodies like ICC, CSI, API, IMA and DMA. He is also an Honorary Professor of Cardiology at Banaras Hindu University.
Dr Kler’s persistent commitment and unfaltering performance in Medicine have brought him distinctions. He has many firsts to his credit. He is the 1st one in SAARC region to implant an ICD; a Heart Failure Device; a Combo Device; and the 1st one to perform Radio Frequency Ablation in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
Dr Kler is also the first one to implant an ICD in Punjab Institute of Cardiology, Lahore and he also started Radiofrequency Ablation programme in this institute. Dr Kler did the First HIS Bundle Pacing in India in 2015. He has helped establishing Cardiology and Electrophysiology Departments at many cities in India.
Dr Kler has performed more than 25,000 coronary, renal, carotid and peripheral angioplasties. He is pioneer in Radiofrequency Ablation and Device Therapy for cardiac arrhythmias and heart failure. He has about 270 national and international journal articles to his credit and has been on the editorial board of Indian Heart Journal.
He is regularly invited as a guest faculty to various National and International Conferences. In the last 32 years Dr Kler has mentored more than 300 cardiologists from India and abroad to perform advanced techniques of angiography, angioplasty and electrophysiology.
Dr Kler’s achievements have brought a glow of pride to our country. He has been a recipient of India’s most coveted awards and honours like Padma Bhushan Award (2005) and The Citation Award on behalf of Escorts Heart Institute, Delhi by Honourable President of India A. P. J. Abdul Kalam in December 2002.
For his incomparable proficiency in the field of Medicine and his expertise; steadfast and industrious attitude, Dr Kler has been honoured by many organisations and medical bodies around the world. He has received prestigious awards such as Doctorate of Science (D.Sc) from Panjab University, Chandigarh in 2007; IMA AMS Distinguished Service Award for contribution to the society in general and medical profession in particular from Indian Medical Association.
In 2006 he also received Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding contribution in the field of Cardiology at the World Congress of Clinical and Preventive Cardiology (WCCPC). He was also awarded with `The Great Son of India’ Award by Sahibzada Ajit Singh Academy, Roopnagar, Punjab in February 2003 For his constant endeavour to improve Interventional Cardiology and Electrophysiology facilities in the country, `PLS Power Brand Speaker Award’ from Pharma Leaders in 2017, Vijay Ratna Award’ by India International Friendship Society & `Delhi Medical Association Centenary Award’.
He was also awarded `Fakhar – E – Punjabit’ Award from International Punjabi Society. Punjab, Haryana, Jammu Kashmir and Chandigarh Branch. He was also warded `Achiever in Legend Category for Cardiology’, in Times Healthcare Achievers 2018 organised by Times of India. & ~Inspiring Cardiologists of India “ in 2018. In The Economic Times Doctor’s Day Conclave. Dr Kler received Vishisht Chikitsa Ratan Award from Sh. J.P. Nadda, Health Minister and Dr Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State for Environment and Culture, on Doctor’s Day Celebration from Delhi Medical Association in 2018.
Dr T.S. Kler has become a significant icon in the field of Medicine. The award of this Honorary Doctorate is an appropriate acknowledgment of the extraordinary contribution that he has made.
