Distt administration honours newspaper hawkers in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, February 8, 2023: It’s for the first time that Deputy Commissioner, Rajesh Dhiman has taken the initiative to felicitate the newspapers hawkers of the city with new bicycles and warm jackets, as token of honour at the simple and impressive ceremony, at historical gurudwara Saragarhi.
It was an emotional movement when around 40 newspaper vendors were honoured at this event, who have been working, for the last many years, for distributing newspapers, without any break in the city as well as in the villages within the radius of 25 km, from 10 to 40 years.
Addressing this brief and effective event, MLA Ferozepur Urban Ranbir Singh Bhullar said the hawkers class, despite odd conditions in the morning, ensure the dropping of newspaper at our door steps and we feel pleasure to honour them.
MLA Ferozepur Rural Rajnish Dahiya said that the district administration and Raksha Foundation have honored the neglected hardworking newspaper hawkers by the society. He said, despite the digital era, everyone keeps waiting for the newspaper in the morning. We are so addicted to newspapers that even we wait on holidays after 26th Jan. and 15th Aug. Dahiya said that group insurance will also be arranged shortly for them.
Sharing his many years of experience in newspaper distribution, he said that it is a happy day and a proud moment for him and his family who have been so honored by Rajesh Dhiman, Deputy Commissioner, in association with Raksha Foundation.
On this occasion, DC Rajesh Dhiman, the newspaper distributors used to get up at around four in the morning without leave and deliver newspapers, without any break, to homes/offices even in extreme winter, summer and bad weather without leaving their personal comfort.
DC said that the main religion of these tireless and hardworking people is their hard work and the district administration has done this noble effort by honoring them while saluting their hard work and passion.
He further said, the purpose of honoring these people is also to give them respect along with encouragement and he is very happy to honour them with bicycle, warm jackets and water bottles and this feature will continue in the future as well.
DC said, the hawkers class has been ignored so far and the initiative to recognise their services has been taken today without any caste and creed. The hawkers in other cities of the district will also be honoured. The idea of group insurance given by MLA Dahiya, will also be materialized after seeing its modalities. He also thanked Advocate Gagandeep Singhal of Raksha Foundation for his support in this work and said that more donors should also come forward for such good works.

Karanveer Chowdhary, who has been distributing newspapers for the last 45 years by cycling 60 km, said, “I am distributing newspapers for a long time, but today, it is for the first time that he has been given such an honour by the district administration. He said, “With this honor I got a new flight”.
Dr.Rameshwar Singh an educationalist said, it's a good gesture on the part of district administration to honour the hawkers. The people do not even know their names and they just recognize from their call while delivering the newspaper – Akhabar-E - in the morning in their peculiar tone, that the newspaper has arrived.
Mangat Ram, Anil Kumar, Parveen Goyal, Rajinder Kumar, Mukesh Kumar, Rakesh Kumar, Vikas, Kuldeep, Sandeep, Paramjit etc. who have been involved in the newspaper distribution business for many years thanked the Deputy Commissioner for this initiative. Many hawkers were also seen getting emotional on the occasion of receiving the honour. On this occasion, around 40 newspaper distributors including Sanjay, Pawan, Kamal, Yashpal, Satish, Krishna, Amit, Ritish, Pawan, Vikram, Inderjit were honored.
Present among others on this occasion were. Dr.Jagdeep Singh Sandhu, District Language Officer, Ashok Behal, Secretary Red Cross, Anirudh Gupta, CEO, DCM Group of Schools, Gaurav Bhaskar, Chairman, Vivekanand World School, Kikkar Singh Kutbewala Robi Sandhu, and Raj Bahadur Singh Gill.
