Punjab CM Mann fooling people on providing compensation to farmers: Rajewal
Harshabab Sidhu
Chandigarh, April 2, 2023:Farmers leader Balbir Singh Rajewal slammed Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann on their announcements regarding huge loss of crops due to heavy rains and winds.
Addressing a press conference at Kisan Bhawan in Chandigarh, he said the unseasonal rains damaged crops like wheat, mustard and many vegetables in the state.
Calling it an economic disaster, Rajewal said that it is a very serious issue but unfortunately the AAP government is taking it lightly and fooling people into providing compensation to affected farmers.
He demanded that the government should give ₹50,000 per acre instead of ₹15,000.
He also said that the government is claiming that the girdawari process is already being done but the state is tackling a shortage of patwaris as only one-fourth of the total patwaris are performing their duties.
In such circumstances, it is not possible to complete the girdawari process till Vaisakhi as announced by the CM.
The farmers leader said that the country is heading towards the food crisis as the union government has only 150 lakh ton grain left against the requirement of 270 lakh ton. If the situation remains same, more suicides and starvation may take place.
He said the MLAs are busy only in clicking pictures with affected farmers instead of understanding the ground reality.
