Journalists to hold National level protest infront of Parliament in support of their demands
New Delhi,May 30, 2023: The Confederation of Newspapers and News Agencies Employees Organizations will organise a demonstration at Parliament House in New Delhi during July in support of various demands of media persons.
The Confederation is demanding restoration of the Working Journalists Act, enactment of a Journalist Protection Law and putting an end to illegal retrenchment of journalists and non-journalist employees in media institutions.
This decision was taken at the annual general meeting of the confederation held in the Capital on May 28, according to a statement issued today. During the general body meeting, all the problems of journalists and non-journalists were discussed.
Representatives from unions across the country, including National Union of Journalists (India), Indian Journalists Union, Indian Federation of Working Journalists, All India Federation of PTI Employees Union, UNI Workers Union, All India Newspaper Employees Federation, National Federation of Newspaper Employees and The Tribune Employees Union, attended the meeting.
MS Yadav, general secretary of the confederation said that all the national media organizations affiliated to the Confederation have unanimously decided to hold a countrywide agitation regarding the demands of the media persons.
Memorandums will also be given to the President and the Prime Minister. Under the nationwide campaign, attention will be drawn to the demands of media persons by giving memorandum to the Governors, Chief Ministers and MPs of the states.
The date of protest and demonstration in front of the Parliament House in Delhi will be decided in the executive meeting of the Confederation shortly. Before the demonstration, conferences and seminars will be organized in the states regarding the demands of media persons across the country.
During the meeting, Mr Ras Bihari, President of the National Union of Journalists, and Mr Anil Kumar Gupta, President of The Tribune Employees Union, were elected as the President and Vice President of the Confederation, respectively.
