Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains flagged off the Punjabi language awareness bus rally organized by Vishwa Punjabi Sabha,Canada at Punjab Bhavan here on Saturday.
Appreciating the efforts of Vishwa Punjabi Sabha (VPS) Canada and its chairman Dr. Dalbir Singh Kathuria, Bains said that Bhagwant Mann government has taken special initiatives to protect the Punjabi,spread its wings and make study Punjabi compulsory in private schools. He said that the government istand firm in favor of Punjabi mother tongue. He disclosed that the govt taken very tough stand against those private schools who did not introduce study of Punjabi or dicourage Punjabi speaking.Even fine has been imposed against some such schools.He also mentioned the efforts to persuade buasinessmen to put Punjabi on signboards etc.
This bus rally will run in the cities and villages of Punjab till September 27. The rally started from Chandigarh would end in holy city Amritsar on Sep 27.
Dr. Kathuria, who specially came here from Canada for this Punjabi Bus Rally, urged the people to carry forward mother toungue Punjabi to their new generation and to always speak Punjabi with their children in their homes. He said that many big and developed countries of the world have grown up on the basis of their own language. Education in English and other languages is the need of the hour but no language can replace the native language. "Therefore, the Vishav Punjabi Sabha is doing various activities to motivate people in this direction", said Kathuria.

On this occasion, Bal Mukand Sharma, Brand Ambassador of VPS and Prof. Balbir Kaur, India Coordinator of the Sabha, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur from GNDU Amritsar and senior journalist Baljit Balli were also present.
Balbir Kaur said that this bus rally would pass through 40 cities-villages of Punjab and will end at Amritsar on September 27.
On this occasion, many writers, thinker and Punjabi lovers, associated with the World Punjabi Sabha were present with pro-Punjabi banners and slogans in their hands.
