Chandigarh, September 24, 2023:
The mega multispecialty free health camp, organised by Chandigarh Welfare Trust (CWT), kick-started on Sunday (September 24) with thousands of people from Chandigarh and peripheral areas arriving for availing the benefit of quality medical service.
The special health camp is being organised at Grain Market, in Sector 39, Chandigarh is being organised as a part of ‘Sewa Pakhwada’ which began on 73rd birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on September 17.
Around 20,000 are expected to avail the benefit free of cost where many specialities will be provided under one roof. The health camp will be inaugurated by Punjab governor and UT administrator Banwarilal Purohit who will be accompanied by CWT founder and Chandigarh University Chancellor Satnam Singh Sandhu.
Besides Chandigarh, people from far off places are also arriving at the health camp. For the day-long mega health camp, as many as 26 medical associations, hospitals, and institutions joined hands with CWT for this grand health camp and more than 500 doctors and 1200 paramedical staff along with CWT volunteers are participating in camp to offer free health services to the people.
CWT founder Satnam Singh Sandhu, said, “We are committed to the welfare of people and we follow the philosophy of ‘Sewa’ as advocated by Sikh Gurus. The mega health camp has started and the response from the people is overwhelming and we hope that a large number of people will avail the benefit from the free health services provided at the health camp. We are carrying forward the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of making healthcare accessible and affordable for citizens especially those belonging to poor and underprivileged sections. We are providing the different check-up camps besides cancer screening camps and prosthetic limb fitting camp by specialists.”
Different types of checkup camps have been setup at the mega health camp which includes cancer screening camp, for which ten cancer screening buses will be deployed at the camp. The citizens are also being apprised by the specialists about warning signs of different types of cancer.
Prosthetic limbs fitting camp where a facility of fitting artificial limbs is being provided to enable people with disabilities to lead a normal life. Around 300 needy patients are expected to benefit from this camp who largely belong to poor and underprivileged sections. With this camp CWT is helping them to lead a normal life.
Besides these, child healthcare camp, dental check-up camp, general medical check-up camp, mental health counselling, eye screening camp, health check-up camp, orthopaedic camp, derma camp, homeopathy camp, ENT camp, camp on Ayurveda and gynaecology camps are also being held – where people are assembling in large numbers are receiving free of cost treatment.
Jaswinder Singh, who hails from Faridabad in Haryana, is among those who are provided the advanced technology artificial limbs. Singh who lost his foot due to some unfortunate incident because of which I was not able to perform my daily work. “I am dependent on others and every day is a struggle for me. I got know about this health camp and registered to get artificial foot with which I can lead a normal life. My dream to be able to walk and work again will finally come true,” he said, while extending warm wishes to CWT founder Satnam Singh Sandhu.

Saroj, who works as a sanitation worker under MC Chandigarh visited the health camp to receive cancer screening. She said, “I have been working as a sanitation worker for the last 18 years. My daughter was 3-years old and my son was only 9-years old when I started this work. As we must clean the city, we need to collect different kinds of garbage every day. As we encounter the dirty waste, we remain at the risk of contracting diseases.”
“This kind of health camps are very significant for us. We not only get vaccinated but we also get awareness related to health,” said Saroj while extending gratitude to CWT for organising the health camp.
