Liver Transplant facility to be started at Punjab Institute of Liver & Billary Sciences soon
PILBS is expected to be fully functional by this November, says Dr.Balbir Singh
Chandigarh, September 27, 2023: Reaffirming the commitment of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to provide world-class healthcare facilities to the people of the state, Punjab Health, and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh on Wednesday informed that soon, people will be able to avail first-class medical care for patients with liver and biliary diseases including the liver transplant facility at Punjab Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (PILBS) at Mohali.
While chairing the first meeting of the Governing Board of the PILBS at the Punjab Civil Secretariat here, the Health Minister gave go-ahead to the establish a state-of-the-art diagnostic and management facility at PILBS.
He stated that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government has already sanctioned a grant of Rs 25 crores, as the first installment, to purchase the latest equipment for the institute.
With Outpatient Department (OPD) services already being provided in this prestigious institute, Dr Balbir Singh said that the institute is expected to be fully functional by this November as the process to purchase ultra-modern equipment has also been initiated and the recruitment process of super-specialist doctors and other para-medical staff is also being initiated.
Soon, patients with various types of liver diseases including acute and chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, liver cancer, alcoholic liver disease, ascites, venous and typical disorders of the liver like gall bladder and biliary diseases, and other rare liver and biliary disorders of children and adults can avail the treatment, he added.
“Soon, people will also be able to avail the liver transplant procedure at this institute, which is being established at par with The Institute of Liver & Biliary Sciences (ILBS), New Delhi,” said Dr. Balbir Singh, while adding that this would be the second government super-specialty institute to offer first-class medical care for patients with liver and biliary diseases in the country.
Special Secretary of Health Dr. Kathik Adapa, Director of Health Services Dr. Adarshpal Kaur, Director PILBS Dr Virendra Singh, and Director of Medical Education and Research Dr Avnish Kumar were also present in the meeting.
