Chandigarh, May 21, 2024: Two days after senior Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira made a controversial statement on non-Punjabis, Prime Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched an attack on the INDIA alliance.
Addressing an election rally in Bihar, PM Modi said that the alliance carries a lot of hatred.
"They have a lot of hatred in their heart and mind. Did they ask the royal family of Congress on why their leader is making such a statement? RJD in Bihar has turned a blind eye on the matter," he said.
On May 19, Senior Punjab Congress leader and MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira made a big statement on non-Punjabis while campaigning in Sangrur ahead of Lok Sabha elections.
Khaira said to save Punjab, non-Punjabis should neither be given the right to vote nor should they be given government jobs.
"If in this manner non-Punjabi Punjabi people are allowed to live here, then in the coming 15-20 years you will not find Punjabis here nor will you find turbans. I have given a message to Speaker Kultar Sendhwa in 2023 to make this law on the lines of Himachal Pradesh, but no work has been done on it," said Sukhpal Khaira.
"The law should be made in Punjab that no non-Punjabi can neither buy land here nor vote here nor take a government job here. Punjab is a special state for the majority of Sikhs, and to save us and to save Punjab, this law will have to be implemented in Punjab. Non-Punjabi people should come here, do their jobs, and earn money, we have no objection to saving the Punjabi language, this law needs to be made in Punjab," he added.
