‘Saksham’ app for a disability-friendly election
DEO appeals PwD voters to use ‘Saksham App’ to avail facilities on poll day
Ferozepur, May 24, 2024: In a bid to provide accessibility to all and leave no voter behind, the Persons-with-Disabilities (PwDs) must make use of ‘Saksham App’ as much as possible during the Lok Sabha Elections-2024, said Rajesh Dhiman, DEO-cum-DC.
These efforts are aimed at making the elections an inclusive exercise. By downloading the app, voters in the persons with disabilities (PwD) category can alert the Election Commission about their specific needs and access the various services.
The Saksham App, developed by the commission, provides various services from registering voters with disabilities to making wheelchairs available for them on Election Day by using this app, disabled voters can register themselves and avail facilities like wheelchairs, transport and volunteers for their convenience on the day of voting. The app can be downloaded from Google Play Store and Apple Store.
DEO Dhiman said, there are 16,70,008 voters in the Ferozepur-10 Lok Sabha constituency of 9 Assembly segments. Out of this, 9,100 PwD and 1,001 visually impaired voters and as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India, concrete measures are being taken by the district administration to ensure maximum participation of persons with disabilities during the elections.
He said that the disabled are an integral part of our society and the district administration must provide them all the necessary facilities during the elections. He directed all the
Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) provide maximum information about the facilities available for the disabled through 'Saksham App' so that more and more needy people can avail these facilities. Those group officials have been instructed to make adequate arrangements for drinking water, cleanliness, wheelchairs, ramps etc. at the polling stations so that the voters do not face any problems.
