Kakka Singh, 103-yrs-old Great grandfather enjoys vote-from-home facility in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, May 25, 2024 : In a significant move to facilitate voting, the Election Commission has extended the vote-from-home facility to senior citizens above 85 years and disabled voters ahead of the seventh phase of polling in Punjab on June 1. District Election Officer cum Deputy Commissioner Ferozepur, Rajesh Dhiman, along with Gagandeep Singh, ARO-cum-SDM Guruharshahai, has coordinated teams across 17 routes in the constituency to ensure this service.
Expressing his happiness over vote-from-home facility, Kakka Singh of border village Chhanga Rai Uttar 103-year-old great grandfather in Guruharsahai constituency and senior journalist M.L,Tiwari 88-year-old said, “The persons, who are above 85 years of age, like me or those voters who are struggling with physical problems, have been given the facility of vote-from home, for which I am very thankful to the Election Commission.
To make the process inclusive and accessible, the Election Commission of India, this time has extended its ‘vote-from-home’ facility during the current Lok Sabha elections, to Persons with Disabilities (PwD) and senior citizens aged 85 and above. There are around 13,365 senior citizens (85 years plus) and 9,100 PwD (Persons with disability) voters in Ferozepur Lok Sabha constituency among total 16,70,008 voters. Voters in the category whose 12-D forms were submitted on time and found to be correct can cast their votes through postal ballots by the electoral staff appointed at their homes.
Nodal Officer cum Naib Tehsildar Jai Amandeep Goyal reported that through 12D forms submitted by sector officers, 272 out of 281 disabled voters and senior citizens have availed the home voting facility and 96 percent turn-out recorded in Guruharshahai constituency.DEO-cum-DC said that according to the instructions of the Election Commissioner of India, the voters of the said category were voted today through postal ballot only by staying at home. If a voter misses voting on May 25 for any reason, his vote will be cast on May 27. He said that voting was conducted from home with the participation of the entire team of polling staff and security personnel. All precautions are taken to ensure the secrecy of voting and the entire process is video graphed for transparency.
DEO-cum-DC also appealed to every voter of Lok Sabha Constituency 10 Ferozepur to exercise their right to vote on June 1, so that every citizen contributes to the strengthening of democracy.
