Firing over land dispute in Zira: Victim family appeals for protection, demands to send accused to jail
Ferozepur, June 15, 2024: The victim's family members have appealed to the police for their protection by sending the accused to jail, in a firing incident over a land dispute in Zira, injuring two persons, who are under treatment in hospital at Faridkot in a case registered against Mahinderjit Singh the uncle of Kulbir Singh Zira and his son and others. The other accused booked in the FIR are Mehakdeep Singh, Baba Karnail Singh, Dr Rashpal Singh, Chairman, Nagar Council Committee, Zira, Buta Singh, Balwinder Singh and one Unknown person, under Section 307 and others and Arms Act.
By holding a press conference at Press Club, Gurmeet Singh uncle of Gurlal Singh who was injured in the case said that in 1975, Balveer Singh and Bakshish Singh had bought 8 acres of 12 marla land (the land on which the dispute is going on) from a person named Gyan Singh, on which they were doing farming. Mahinderjit Singh got the land registered fraudulently and after that the case went on in different courts and on 23 April 2024, the High Court gave its verdict in favour of Balveer Singh, Bakhshish Singh. He said that on 6 June Mahinderjit Singh came to the land armed with weapons along with 10-15 persons and started quarrelling with us and the said persons started firing from their weapons. One of the bullets fired by them hit Gurlal Singh, who was admitted to the government hospital in an injured condition from where he was referred to DMC Ludhiana.
Regarding the involvement of former Congress MLA Kulbir Zira, he said, the Session Court has rejected his bail indicating that from the investigation of the Investigating Agency based on the C-TRACE Report, it appears that the applicant/accused was actively involved in the occurrence and he was constantly in touch with accused on the ground talking for about 123 times and he appeals to have been remotely controlling the things. His custodial interrogation is required to unearth the complete modus operandi of the case.
The victim's family members appealed to the police authorities to protect our lives and property. Also, arrest the accused and send them to jail. However, Zira was not available for comment.
