Chandigarh, August 6, 2024: The Leader of the Opposition (LoP), Partap Singh Bajwa, on Tuesday, termed the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's recent comments on the former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as highly insensitive and unfortunate.
"She has been representing a democratically elected government in Bangladesh. At such a time of crisis, she chose to come to India. Moreover, India has cordial relations with her and Bangladesh. She is a guest of our country. Instead of making her feel At home here, CM Mann called her a dictator. Such comments are highly deplorable", Bajwa added.
Notably addressing a state-level Van Mahotsav function at Hoshiarpur today, CM Mann said that the turn of events that had brought an abrupt end to PM Sheikh Hasina's 15-year-old regime in Bangladesh had taught the lesson that "dictatorial" rule could not last forever
Senior Congress Leader Bajwa said that she was not only the head of the democratically elected government of a sovereign country - Bangladesh but also the daughter of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father and first president of Bangladesh. After the assassination of her father in 1975, Sheikh Hasina sought refuge in Delhi. Then, the PM of India gave her asylum.
"Bhagwant Mann holds a responsible position. He is not a comedian anymore, who could make fun of just anyone. He must understand that our neighbor country has been going through serious internal turmoil at the moment. If he cannot say some kind words to her , he should have at least refrained from using such harsh language", Bajwa added.
