Ferozepur, August 10, 2024: The Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) organized a significant seminar at Kisan Bhawan, Chandigarh, to discuss the three controversial laws recently introduced by the Government of India. The event brought together prominent legal and agricultural experts to educate farmer leaders on the potential implications of these laws.
Senior Advocate RS Bains, who has represented cases in both the Supreme Court and High Court, highlighted that the responsibility for drafting these laws, which should have been under the Ministry of Law and Justice, was instead undertaken by the Ministry of Home Affairs. He, along with Human Rights Advocate Gurmohan Singh and Advocate Kamlesh Vashisht from the Fatehabad Bar Council, emphasized how these laws undermine the rights of ordinary citizens, violate constitutional principles, and disregard previous Supreme Court rulings.
The seminar's second session focused on Minimum Support Price (MSP) and agricultural policies. Noted agricultural experts, including Dr. Davinder Sharma and Professor Prakash Kammareddy from Karnataka, addressed the gathering. They argued that successive governments have eroded farmers' rights by failing to ensure MSP, despite it being a viable and necessary measure. They cited the successful models of Karnataka and Kerala, where MSP policies have greatly benefited farmers without imposing undue financial strain on the government.
The seminar was attended by key farmer leaders such as Sarwan Singh Pandher, Jagjit Singh Dalewal, Manjit Singh Rai, Jaswinder Singh Longowal, Dilbag Singh Harigarh, Abhimanyu Kohar, Guramneet Singh Mangat, Tejveer Singh Panjokhra Sahib, Satnam Singh Sahni, and Balwant Singh Behramke.
