National Librarian's Day celebrated at DSCW

Ferozepur, 12.08.2024: Dev Samaj College for Women - an A+ graded institution by Panjab University, Chandigarh - celebrated National Librarian's Day in honour of Padmashri Dr. S.R. Ranganathan's birth anniversary. Under the leadership of Chairman Mr. Nirmal Singh Dhillon and Principal Dr. Sangeeta, the college continues to foster the intellectual growth of its students through various academic activities.
August 12, has been denoted National Librarians' Day in India. Dr. SR Ranganathan, who is known as the Father of Library Science in India, birthday is observed every year as National Librarian Day in India.
The event, organized by the college's library department, highlighted Dr. S.R. Ranganathan's contributions to library science. Department heads Mrs. Alka and Dr. Sandhya shared insights on Dr. Ranganathan’s work with the students. Dr. Vandana Gupta, Dean of Academics, Dr. Bhumida Sharma, Dean of Student Welfare, and Dr. Kulbir Singh, Dean of Outreach Programs, were also present. The faculty and students paid floral tributes to Dr Ranganathan, acknowledging his role as the father of library science in India.
Dr. Sandhya emphasized the significance of Ranganathan's "Five Laws of Library Science," proposed in 1931, which continues to guide library practices globally. She highlighted the enduring relevance of these principles even in the digital age.
Principal Dr. Sangeeta encouraged students to stay connected with the library and congratulated the library staff for the successful event. Chairman Nirmal Singh Dhillon also extended his best wishes.
