Subramanian Swamy files PIL in Delhi High Court seeking cancelation of Rahul Gandhi's citizenship
New Delhi, August 17, 2024: BJP leader and Former Union Minister Subramanian Swamy has filed a petition in Delhi High Court seeking directions to Ministry of Home Affairs to cancel citizenship of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.
In his petition he has claimed that Rahul Gandhi has declared himself British citizen.
It is worth mentioning here that Swamy had in 2019, written a letter to the Union Home Ministry on violations made by Rahul Gandhi in voluntarily disclosing to the UK government that he is a citizen of British nationality, holding a British passport.
He had claimed that his declaration Rahul Gandhi ceases to be an Indian Citizen in terms of Article 9 of the Constitution read with the Indian Citizenship Act, 1955.
He also claimed that a Company named Backops Limited was registered in the United Kingdom in the year 2003, with address 51 Southgate Street, Winchester, Hampshire SO23 9EH, where Gandhi was one of the Directors and Secretary of the said Company. In the Company's Annual Returns filed on 10/10/2005 and 31/10/2006, Gandhi’s date of birth has been given as 19/06/1970 and he had declared his nationality as British.
