Chandigarh, October 15, 2024: Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (Reform) leader and former Member of Parliament, Prof. Prem Singh Chandumajra, today issued a statement condemning alleged efforts to erode the authority and faith in Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the supreme institution of the Sikh Panth.
Addressing the media, Chandumajra asserted that recent decisions announced by the Panj Singh Sahiban exposed political interference aimed at influencing outcomes in favor of Sukhbir Singh Badal, the president of Shiromani Akali Dal.
He claimed that despite significant pressure on the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the Jathedar did not succumb to these external forces, maintaining the sanctity of the institution.
"The exposure of such political pressure has created unrest within the panth," Chandumajra remarked, adding that these efforts represent a broader scheme to defame and undermine Sikh institutions.
"This is not just an attack on individual Singh Sahibs but a calculated assault on the credibility of the highest institution of the Sikh community," he said.
Chandumajra also highlighted the unresolved proposal by members of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to enact a law preserving the independent authority of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
He alleged that the rejection of this proposal was part of a larger conspiracy to manipulate the institution for personal or political gain.
The former MP emphasized the need for unity among the Sikh community to protect the dignity of its institutions."Attempts to compromise the integrity of Sri Akal Takht Sahib will never succeed," he declared.
Chandumajra's remarks reflect the growing tensions within Sikh political and religious circles, as leaders and factions grapple with maintaining the autonomy and sanctity of the faith’s institutions amidst allegations of political meddling.
