Strict action if any government bus found parked at Dhabha: Anil Vij

Chandigarh, November 5, 2024 - Haryana Transport Minister Anil Vij today directed the officers of the Transport Department that no vehicle without a number plate should be found on the roads of the state. If any such vehicle is found, strict action should be taken.
He also instructed that no government bus should be found parked at any dhaba.
Vij was presiding over a review meeting today with officers of the Transport Department. He also instructed all General Managers (GMs) to inspect bus stands daily and to take strict action against vehicles operating without a permit.
He emphasized the need for comprehensive monitoring of bus arrivals, departures and schedules.
Essential Repairs at Bus Stands to Be Done on a Priority Basis
Vij instructed that the essential maintenance work at all bus stands in the state, including provisions for drinking water, cleanliness, benches for passengers, lighting, fans, and other maintenance tasks, should be prioritized. Additionally, the quality of food items sold there should be checked daily.
Canteens to Be Opened at Bus Stands Similar to the Railways
The Transport Minister also directed the exploration of the possibility of opening canteens at bus stands, similar to those provided by the railways, to offer better amenities to passengers.
Speed Boards to Be Installed on Every Road to Prevent Accidents
He instructed that speed boards indicating the speed limit for each road must be installed throughout the state. Accident-prone areas should also be identified. The primary objective is to prevent and reduce the number of road accidents occurring annually in the state.
Timely Salaries and Promotions for Employees
. Vij directed officers to ensure that the salaries of Transport Department employees are paid on time and that no promotions are delayed. He emphasized the purchase of new technological equipment for vehicle fitness checks. The Transport Minister also instructed the development of a policy for the fitness of bus drivers and conductors, setting standards related to their health and fitness.
Officials informed the Minister that the state has 4,040 buses, 24 depots, and 13 sub-depots, with 649 routes within the state, 443 routes outside the state, and 877 village routes. They also mentioned that buses cover approximately 11 lakh kilometers daily, carrying over 10 lakh passengers each day.
The meeting was attended by the Principal Secretary of the Transport Department, Navdeep Singh Virk; State Transport Department Director, Sujan Singh; Transport Commissioner, Yashendra Singh; and other department officers.
