Chandigarh, November 11, 2024: BJP Punjab Spokesperson Pritpal Singh Baliawal has strongly urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Punjab Election Commission to take decisive action against Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, President of Punjab Congress and husband of a contesting candidate of congress Amrita Warring from Giddarbaha, for a significant violation of the Model Code of Conduct.
It has been observed that Shri Warring has exploited religious institutions for political purposes, an act that is in direct violation of the Religious Institutions (Prevention of Misuse) Act, 1988.
He Posted on his Facebook Page ("Addressed the congregation at Gidderbaha Mosque and on this occasion, took a pledge from them to press the hand symbol button on the upcoming 20th.")
This Act, established to maintain the sanctity of religious places and prevent their use for political propaganda, prohibits any use of religious institutions or their resources to further political objectives. Violations under this Act are punishable with up to five years of imprisonment and fines.
BJP Punjab believes that such actions not only breach the legal code but also compromise the secular fabric of the state and mislead communities for political gain.
Amarinder Singh Raja Warring’s involvement in activities aimed at polarizing the Muslim community for electoral benefits is a matter of grave concern.
Such tactics undermine the democratic process and could set a dangerous precedent if left unchecked. Therefore, BJP Punjab demands that Raja Warring be barred from further campaigning to preserve the integrity and fairness of the election.
The Election Commission is urged to instruct District Election Officers (DEOs) and Returning Officers (ROs) to strictly enforce these provisions of law. Additionally, it is requested that this directive be widely circulated among political parties for adherence.
BJP Punjab stands committed to ensuring free, fair, and impartial elections and expects the Election Commission to uphold these values by taking immediate action.
