Amritsar, November 13, 2024: Terming the Centre government's decision to give land for separate Haryana legislative assembly in Chandigarh as robbery on Punjab's rights, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said that this approach of the government is a direct disrespect to Punjab and Punjabis.
He said that Chandigarh was established on the existence of dozens of villages in Punjab, due to which only Punjab has the right to this city. The Centre government is not doing any good by ignoring the rights and interests of Punjab.
Advocate Dhami said that the Centre government's intention has always been anti-Punjab.
“The issue of threat to the democratic structure and rights related to Panjab University Chandigarh and the implementation of the Central rules on the employees working in Chandigarh. And now giving land to Haryana for separate Vidhan Sabha in Chandigarh, is the height of betrayal towards Punjab, in whichthe incumbent government of Punjab is directly involved”, said Advocate Dhami.
He said that the double face of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was exposed when he had demanded land for a separate Punjab Vidhan Sabha in a tweet in the past.
He said that it is because of the conspiratorial role being played by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann that the Centre government has taken action to give land to Haryana by ignoring the rights of Punjab in Chandigarh.
Advocate Dhami said that only Punjab had, has and will always have the right to Chandigarh. He said that although currently there is talk of Haryana giving 12 acres of land in Panchkula in exchange for this 10 acres of land in Chandigarh, this is just a way to deceive Punjabis.
Advocate Dhami said that the Centre government should immediately stop such proceedings and before taking any decision regarding Chandigarh, consultation should be ensured with the representatives of every political party, social organization and religious representative institutions of Punjab.
He appealed to all pro-Punjab parties to come together on one platform against this conspiratorial decision and strongly oppose it, so that this decision cannot be implemented.
