Police intercept cache of illegal arms in Ferozepur, search for suspects underway

Ferozepur, November 14, 2024: In a significant crackdown on illegal arms, Ferozepur police seized 11 pistols and 21 magazines from a black bag left behind by two suspects on a motorcycle. The suspects, approached by police at a checkpoint on the Ferozepur-Ludhiana highway in Talwandi Bhai, abandoned their motorcycle and fled after being signalled to stop. The seized weapons are .32-bore pistols. Ferozepur district has recently seen an alarming rise in illegal firearm circulation, even surpassing licensed arms.
According to DIG Ranjit Singh Dhillon, police efforts over the past year have led to the recovery of 64 firearms, arrest of 49 individuals, and registration of 27 arms-related cases. Additionally, 215 other cases resulted in the seizure of 58 kg of heroin, 12 kg of opium, and over Rs. one crore in drug-related assets.
This operation adds to the ongoing efforts to curb arms trafficking in the region. Police are investigating leads, including the abandoned motorcycle and mobile phones, to trace the suspects' movements and intentions. The case has been registered under Section 25 of the Arms Act, with further investigation underway to dismantle this illicit arms network.
