MPs back Western Rail Link to Heathrow
London, November 14, 2024:
This week in Parliament, MPs and Peers from across the political spectrum came together to advocate for this key rail link to Heathrow Airport. Tan Dhesi MP voiced their support for the project, to ensure that residents of Slough can be better connected to the UK’s major airport by rail.
An Inaugural General Meeting was held in Parliament, bringing together MPs and Peers to reconstitute the All-Party Parliamentary Group on the Western Rail Link to Heathrow and to discuss the many benefits of this vital rail project.
Backed by Government in 2012, the link, which would leave the Main Line between Langley and Iver, would stretch 4 miles to connect to London Heathrow Airport, speeding up journeys from the Thames Valley, removing the cumbersome need for passengers to travel first into London.
The proposals, supported by dozens of Parliamentarians, would reduce rail journey times, deliver a frequent service of four trains in each direction per hour, ease congestion on some of Britain’s busiest roads, reduce passenger congestion, benefit the environment and generate economic growth.
Co-chair of the APPG, Tan Dhesi MP (Slough) said:
“Brilliant to see so much cross-party support again in Parliament for the Western Rail Link to Heathrow. As Parliamentarians representing and living in constituencies across the UK, we know the huge economic and environmental benefits our constituents would experience, since it would connect 20% of Brits to within one interchange of our nation’s main port. I look forward to the progress we will make this year to help deliver this vital infrastructure project.”
