Railway earns ₹3.52 Cr revenue in Ferozepur Rail Divison through ticket checking in November
Ferozepur, November 2, 2024: The ticket-checking staff of Ferozepur Division conducted extensive ticket inspections in trains throughout November 2024, ensuring a comfortable journey for genuine rail users while curbing unauthorized and irregular travel. During these checks, 39,726 passengers were found traveling without tickets or with irregular tickets. A total fine of ₹3.52 crore was collected, significantly contributing to the division's revenue.
Indian Railways often faces the challenge of ticketless travellers, with ticket checkers (TTs) catching offenders daily. While fines collected from such passengers contribute to the Railways' revenue, the issue raises a moral question. Traveling without a valid ticket undermines the principles of fairness and discipline. Every unpaid journey adds strain to an already overburdened system, affecting punctuality and passenger services. This practice not only reflects poorly on individuals but also highlights a lack of civic responsibility.
Awareness campaigns and stricter enforcement are essential to curtail this habit, promoting ethical behavior while ensuring financial sustainability for the Railways.
Railway officials also carried out surprise ticket-checking drives, advising passengers to travel with valid tickets. Additionally, campaigns to maintain cleanliness at major railway stations resulted in penalties of ₹63,300 being imposed on 431 individuals under the Anti-Littering Act.
Divisional Railway Manager Sanjay Sahu emphasized the division's commitment to achieving zero ticketless travel through continuous inspections. Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Paramdeep Singh Saini highlighted the dual role of ticket-checking staff in increasing revenue and supporting passengers, ensuring their efforts are recognized through appreciation certificates.
