HP Budget Session: Opposition walks out over alleged restriction on BJP workers' rally
Babushahi Bureau
Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), March 27, 2025: The Himachal Pradesh Assembly witnessed high drama on Thursday as the opposition BJP walked out of the session, alleging that party workers were being prevented from reaching their rally venue.
Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur raised the issue after the Question Hour, claiming that BJP supporters from various parts of the state were being stopped from reaching the rally site, with some forced to walk over eight kilometers.
He also alleged that water cannons had been brought in from Haryana to control the crowd.
Condemning the alleged restrictions, Thakur stated, “This is undemocratic, and we cannot be part of this session under such circumstances.” Following this, BJP legislators walked out of the Assembly and headed toward the rally site.
Reacting to the opposition’s protest, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu dismissed the claims, stating, “There is no valid reason for their walkout. We have not issued any orders to stop BJP workers. Their buses are arriving empty—how is that the government’s fault? This is an internal issue within BJP, as some factions are not supporting the rally.”
Meanwhile, Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania informed the House that Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla has invited all members for a dinner at Raj Bhavan on Thursday night.
