War Against Drugs: Authorities demolish drug peddlers' illegal encroachment in Nainowal Vaid

Hoshiarpur (Punjab), March 27, 2025 – As part of Punjab’s ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ campaign against drug trafficking, the District Administration and Police took strict action against convicted drug peddler Gurmeet Kaur by demolishing her illegally encroached house in village Nainowal Vaid.
The demolition was carried out in the presence of the Village Panchayat, which welcomed the decisive step.
Crackdown on Drug Trafficking
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sandeep Kumar Malik stated that Gurmeet Kaur, wife of Balwinder Singh, had illegally occupied Panchayat land despite multiple warnings.
Following official complaints from the Village Panchayat, the District Development and Panchayats Officer initiated legal proceedings, leading to the demolition of the encroached structure.
SSP Malik further revealed that Gurmeet Kaur had a criminal history of eight NDPS cases, with convictions in three.
He assured that strict action will continue against those involved in drug trafficking. He also noted that the Hoshiarpur Police has already attached properties of drug peddlers worth over ₹25 crore in previous crackdowns.
‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ – A District-Wide Anti-Drug Operation
Providing an update on the statewide anti-drug campaign, which began on March 1, SSP Malik shared that the district police have registered 128 FIRs, leading to 191 arrests. The authorities have seized:
- 4 kg of intoxicant powder
- 8,110 intoxicant tablets
- 707 grams of heroin
- 2.306 kg of opium
- ₹23,400 in drug-related cash
