RBI directs banks to ensure ATMs dispense Rs 100, Rs 200 notes

New Delhi, April 29, 2025: In a move aimed at improving public access to frequently used currency denominations, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has directed all banks and White Label ATM Operators (WLAOs) to ensure that their ATMs regularly dispense Rs 100 and Rs 200 notes.
Issuing a circular on Monday, the central bank emphasized that this initiative is part of its ongoing efforts to enhance convenience for the public.The directive is to be implemented in a phased manner.
“To improve the availability of smaller denomination banknotes, all ATMs must be configured to dispense Rs 100 and Rs 200 denomination notes regularly,” the RBI stated.
As per the mandate, by September 30, 2025, at least 75% of all ATMs across the country must be equipped to dispense either Rs 100 or Rs 200 notes from at least one cassette.
