Panchkula, May 1, 2025 – Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini on Thursday appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to refrain from politicizing the sensitive issue of water sharing between states, emphasizing that Punjab is a land of great Gurus who taught compassion and hospitality.
"Now that election time is near, the Punjab government is resorting to low-level politics," said Saini. "People have understood everything. They haven’t done anything meaningful for the public, so they are raising such issues to divert attention."
Addressing Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, Saini added, “You have one year left—spend it decently.” He also referenced the Aam Aadmi Party’s earlier promises in Delhi, saying, “They tried to sell dreams in Delhi too, but people threw them out.”
Saini criticized the Punjab government’s treatment of farmers. “First, they supported the farmers, then beat them with sticks. I had said at the time—don’t use force.”
Clarifying the nature of the water issue, he said, “This is about drinking water, not irrigation. We have learned from our Gurus that anyone who comes to your door should be given water. In the history of this country, such a thing has never happened.”
He further emphasized that Punjab is like a “big brother” to Haryana and urged the AAP government not to create disputes between the two states just to boost their political image.
Saini’s comments come amid rising tensions between Punjab and Haryana over the issue of water allocation, with both states holding firm to their respective stands.
