Chandigarh, May 5, 2025: During a special session of the Punjab Legislative Assembly today, a motion was presented against the decision to provide an additional 8,500 cusecs of water to Haryana by the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB).
The debate on this controversial decision was momentarily interrupted when a person in the audience raised a slogan in support of Punjab's water rights.
The individual, identified as Dilbagh Singh, raised the slogan loudly, "Punjab da paani, Punjab vich hi rahe!" (Punjab's water should stay in Punjab), expressing his emotional stance on the matter. He was immediately escorted and seated by security personnel.
When asked by media personnel about the reason for his outburst, Dilbagh Singh explained, "I was overwhelmed by emotion," adding, "Punjab’s water should not be allowed to flow outside the state, not even a drop more."
The incident drew attention to the ongoing tensions over water distribution between Punjab and Haryana, with many in Punjab voicing their concerns about the depletion of local resources.
