Ludhiana: Inauguration of State-of-the-Art upgraded ICU at Civil Hospital

Ludhiana (Punjab), May 7, 2025: A state-of-the-art 8-bedded Upgraded Intensive Care Unit (ICU) was inaugurated at Civil Hospital, Ludhiana, on Wednesday.
The facility was formally inaugurated by Punjab Cabinet Ministers Dr. Balbir Singh, Hardeep Singh Mundian, Member of Parliament Sanjeev Arora and MLA Ashok Prashar Pappi. The ICU includes 4 ICU beds with ventilator support and 4 HDU (High Dependency Unit) beds equipped with High Flow Nasal Oxygen (HFNO) and BiPAP facilities.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Balbir Singh, Health Minister, Punjab, said, “Our government is determined to strengthen healthcare at the grassroots level. This ICU will serve as a lifeline for critical patients in Ludhiana and nearby areas.”
Responding to media queries, Dr. Balbir Singh assured that the hospital has adequate staff, with 16 new appointments made recently, most of them mainly consists nursing staff.
He emphasized that the upgradation and renovation of the hospital have been undertaken with the combined efforts of the State Government, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, and MP Sanjeev Arora.
He praised MP Arora for his outstanding contribution in modernizing the hospital using MPLAD and CSR funds. While most of the renovation work has been completed, the ICU Unit was among the pending components.
“MP Arora had been consistently pursuing the completion of the ICU Unit, and I’m happy to share that it is now fully functional,” he added.
MP Sanjeev Arora said, “Today marks a significant step forward in our commitment to public health. The inauguration of this state-of-the-art ICU Unit at Civil Hospital, Ludhiana, is not just an addition to infrastructure, it is a promise to save lives, provide timely critical care, and ensure that no citizen is left behind in times of medical emergencies. I congratulate the entire medical team and hospital administration for their dedication and assure my continued support towards strengthening our healthcare system.”
Adding, MP Arora said Civil Hospital, Ludhiana, has always witnessed a heavy patient load from in and around Ludhiana. On average, the OPD sees a daily turnout of around 2,000 patients.
He added, “This is a proud moment for Ludhiana. I express my heartfelt gratitude to our Aam Aadmi Party National Convener Arvind Kejriwal and dynamic Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann for their visionary leadership and unwavering support. Their commitment to a healthier Punjab is truly inspiring. Together, we are working to ensure that quality healthcare reaches every citizen, irrespective of socio-economic status.”
Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana, added, “With 31 ventilators already available at DH Ludhiana, and now with this modern ICU and HDU setup, we are better equipped to handle emergencies and provide specialized care.”
Cabinet Minister Punjab, Hardeep Singh Mundian, remarked, “This is not just a facility—it is a symbol of our government’s resolve to deliver high-quality healthcare to every citizen. Such developments prove that public hospitals can offer world-class services when given the right resources.”
