Ceasefire welcomed, but Punjab remains alert: CM Mann and Governor Kataria; Watch Video

Chandigarh, May 10, 2025: Following an all-party meeting chaired by Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the Governor outlined the state's response to recent border tensions and the newly announced ceasefire with Pakistan.
CM Bhagwant Mann's Statement:
CM Mann emphasized the solidarity displayed by religious organizations in supporting the state during these challenging times. "Punjab has always been and will remain at the forefront for security and the nation's cause," he declared.While welcoming the ceasefire as positive news, Mann stressed that Punjab would maintain full preparedness and vigilance.

He announced plans to visit border districts tomorrow to meet residents and assess the situation firsthand. Mann also cautioned the public against gathering at sites of downed drones or missiles, citing an army advisory about potential dangers.
He confirmed that existing advisories would remain in effect as per army instructions. Additionally, discussions with the Governor covered issues related to lands across the border fence.
Governor Gulab Chand Kataria's Statement:
Governor Kataria lauded the bravery of Indian armed forces in neutralizing multiple drones sent from Pakistan, reporting minimal damage.
"I salute our courageous soldiers," he said. While acknowledging the ceasefire, he expressed a collective sentiment that those responsible for harming innocents should be held accountable.
Kataria thanked Punjab's residents for their cooperation and announced his own plans to visit border districts to engage with locals.
He assured compensation for any losses incurred and the revitalization of the Border Development Fund to uplift border areas.
Measures to improve facilities for border residents and curb drug smuggling via drones were also discussed. All political parties unanimously agreed to approach the Prime Minister to seek a special package for Punjab.
Both leaders underscored Punjab's unwavering commitment to national security and the well-being of its border communities, ensuring continued alertness despite the ceasefire.
