The initial investigation revealed the involvement of a Class-IV employee who played a key role in facilitating the smuggling operations within the jail.

Following the trail, the investigation led to the arrest of Manpreet Singh from Amritsar, an associate of inmate Gurvinder Singh, who is currently lodged in Sangrur Jail. A search of Manpreet Singh's premises led to the seizure of:

A shocking turn in the investigation was the arrest of DSP Gurpreet Singh, who was in charge of security at Sangrur Jail. DGP Gaurav Yadav revealed that the DSP was actively involved in smuggling drugs and mobile phones into the jail premises. His illegal activities were further traced through UPI payments made to accounts linked to his family members.
Zero-Tolerance Policy Against Corruption
DGP Gaurav Yadav emphasized Punjab Police’s zero-tolerance policy against any form of internal collusion with criminal elements. He assured that the investigation is ongoing, with further arrests and disclosures expected.
“No individual – regardless of their rank or position – will be spared if found involved in illegal activities,” he asserted.
