Punjab: 17-year-old student commits suicide after failing Class 12 exams

Ludhiana (Punjab), May 16, 2025: In a heartbreaking incident, a 17-year-old student from village Chahad in Ludhiana ended his life after failing in his Class 12 exams. The boy, identified as Jarnail Singh, had appeared for the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) Class 12 exams and reportedly failed in three subjects.
According to media reports, Jarnail was under severe mental stress following the results. His family noticed a visible change in his behavior—he became withdrawn and stopped communicating with others after learning of his failure.
On Wednesday night, Jarnail told his family he was going to sleep on the roof, a routine habit. However, when he did not come down by 8 a.m. the next morning, his family went up to check and were devastated to find him hanging from an iron beam with a scarf.
He was immediately rushed to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Jarnail was the younger of two brothers. His father serves as a granthi (priest) at the local village gurdwara. The sudden and tragic loss has plunged the family into deep grief.According to villagers, Jarnail was a sincere student and was deeply affected by his exam results.
