Himachal Tragedy: Grandfather and two grandsons drown in Neugal Khad

Palampur (Himachal Pradesh), May 18, 2025 — A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Mela village of Moondhi Panchayat, under the Dheera sub-division in Himachal Pradesh, where a 70-year-old grandfather and his two young grandsons drowned in the Neugal Khad (stream) on Sunday.
According to local sources, Prakash Chand, a resident of Mela village, had taken his two grandsons, Arush (8) and Taru (6), to the stream to wash clothes. While he was busy on the bank, the two children began playing and bathing in the water.
Tragically, the children ventured into deeper waters without realizing the danger and began to drown. Seeing them struggle, Prakash Chand rushed in to save them but was himself pulled under by the current. All three tragically lost their lives in the incident.
As soon as the villagers became aware of the tragedy, they rushed to the scene and began searching for the bodies.The Thural Police Post team also arrived promptly and recovered all three bodies, which have been taken into custody for post-mortem examination.
