Geneva / Haryana, May 19, 2025: The Press Emblem Campaign (PEC), a Geneva-based global media safety and rights organization, has expressed deep shock over the murder of Indian journalist Dharmendra Singh Chauhan and demanded a swift and fair investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Chauhan, a journalist associated with the online news platform Fast News India, was shot dead on May 18 while on an evening walk near his home in Luhari village, Jhajjar district, Haryana. He later succumbed to his injuries at a Gurugram hospital during the night.
“We strongly condemn the brutal killing of Dharmendra Singh Chauhan, who is the 64th journalist murdered globally in 2025, and we call for a fair probe to identify and punish those responsible,” said Blaise Lempen, President of PEC. He urged Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini to take personal responsibility in ensuring justice and providing adequate compensation to Chauhan’s bereaved family.
PEC’s South and Southeast Asia representative, Nava Thakuria, noted that Chauhan is the fourth Indian journalist killed this year, following the murders of Mukesh Chandrakar, Raghavendra Vajpayee, and Sahadev Dey.
The organization reiterated its concern over the increasing threats to journalists in India and worldwide, calling for stronger measures to protect media professionals and safeguard press freedom.
