Amritsar (Punjab), August 9, 2025 – Rebel Akali leader Advocate Jasbir Singh Ghuman has accused the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) of obstructing the Shiromani Akali Dal’s delegate meeting by repeatedly changing venue permissions and imposing restrictions.
According to Ghuman, the SGPC first denied the use of Teja Singh Samundri Hall for the meeting of the party’s five-member recruitment committee. The committee was then allotted Bhai Gurdas Hall, Amritsar, as an alternative venue. However, Ghuman alleged that the SGPC has now prohibited the illumination (parkash) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji during the gathering.
Earlier, the acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, had issued a written directive that no Akali faction should claim the patronage of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. Ghuman called this an extremely distressing matter, alleging that "Tughlaqi decrees" are being issued out of arrogance and possessive thinking, which he condemned strongly.
He further said, “May Akal Purakh bless our arrogant brothers with wisdom.” Ghuman, former President of the All India Sikh Students Federation, added that after consulting the five-member recruitment committee, he has secured Akali Phula Singh Burj as an alternative venue for the delegate meeting scheduled on August 11.
