Jalandhar orders restaurants, club to shut by midnight

Jalandhar (Punjab), September 9, 2025: In a bid to maintain law and order, Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur has ordered all restaurants, clubs, and other licensed food and beverage establishments within the Commissionerate limits to close completely by 12 midnight. The order has been issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.
According to the directive, no food, drinks, or related orders will be accepted after 11:30 PM, and no new customers will be allowed entry into restaurants, clubs, or licensed eateries after that time.
Ahatas (open drinking areas) adjoining liquor shops must also be shut down by midnight or as per licensing conditions.
The order further directs all establishments to strictly adhere to the permissible noise level of 10 dB(A). DJs, live orchestras, singers, and other sound-producing activities must end or reduce their volume by 10 PM. After this time, no sound from within any premises should be audible outside its boundary walls.
Additionally, in the case of vehicles with music systems, care must be taken to ensure that the sound is not audible outside the vehicle at any time of the day.
The order will remain in effect until November 7, 2025.
