Railway expands Parcel Van services, links CWC with Rail Network
Ferozepur, October 10, 2025: In a significant step to boost freight traffic, Northern Railway’s Ferozepur Division has expanded its parcel cargo services by linking the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) — a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise — with rail transport.
Under this initiative, parcel cargo express services have been launched from Moga (Punjab) to Salchapra (Assam), with intermediate loading at Patel Nagar station and unloading at Mirza station. In the initial phase, CWC aims to dispatch 5–6 rakes per month from Moga, which is expected to generate approximately ₹1.5 crore in monthly revenue for Indian Railways.
As part of this move, a parcel cargo express train was operated on October 9, 2025, from Moga to Salchapra, carrying 468 tonnes of goods, mainly food products. The rake included FMCG items such as Nestlé products from Moga and Colgate, Godrej, Geeta Glass, Haldiram, DS Catch Masala, and INTA’s medicines loaded from Patel Nagar. This consignment alone earned the division revenue of around ₹29 lakh.
Senior officials including Gursharan Pathak, Senior Divisional Operations Manager; Manu Garg, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Freight); and Commercial Inspector Ajay Pal Singh were present on the occasion.
The initiative was made possible through continuous coordination between Ferozepur Division’s Business Development Unit, under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager Sanjeev Kumar, and the CWC Punjab regional team.
Officials said the move would not only generate new traffic for the railways but also strengthen business partnerships, making Indian Railways’ parcel services more competitive, reliable, and customer-friendly.
