Chandigarh, October 14, 2025: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday demanded the immediate arrest of DGP, other accused in the case of late Haryana IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar, urging the Prime Minister and Haryana Chief Minister to “stop this farce” and act without delay.
Gandhi met the bereaved family at their residence in Chandigarh, where he spent nearly an hour consoling them. Speaking to the media afterward, he accused the Haryana government of failing to keep its promises to the family and called for urgent action to ensure justice.
“The officers named in the complaint must be arrested immediately. The family is under tremendous pressure and deserves justice and respect,” Gandhi said.
He further alleged that the late officer and his wife had been subjected to years of caste-based discrimination, saying, “It is absolutely clear that this Dalit couple has faced discrimination not just for days or weeks, but for years.”
Criticising the state government’s handling of the case, Gandhi said the Chief Minister had not fulfilled his assurances to the family and called upon both the Prime Minister and the Haryana government to uphold their word and ensure the family’s demands are met so that they can perform the final rites with dignity.
