Tarn Taran (Punjab), October 19, 2025: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) strengthened its foothold in Tarn Taran as senior leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa campaigned in support of the party’s candidate Harjit Singh Sandhu in the village Musa Khurd.
Hundreds of local leaders and prominent personalities, including Balwinder Singh, Gurnam Singh, Virsa Singh, Lovepreet Singh, Jagroop Singh, Didar Singh, and Tajinder Singh, joined the BJP during the event, boosting the party’s strength ahead of the upcoming bypoll.
Harjit Singh Sandhu criticized the ruling AAP government, highlighting the lack of health facilities in Tarn Taran. “Despite over three and a half years in power, there is not a single specialist doctor in the Tarn Taran hospital, and vacancies for health workers remain unfilled. The government keeps making false promises to the people to win votes, but now the citizens no longer trust their claims,” he said.
Sandhu, a seasoned politician, had earlier been associated with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), joining the Youth Akali Dal in 2007 and serving as circle president from 2009 to 2012 before joining the BJP in 2022.
The last date for filing nominations is October 21, while the scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on October 22. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is October 24.
The bypoll has been necessitated by the death of ruling party’s MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal in June. The voting will be held on November 11, and the counting of votes will be conducted on November 14.
