MisI Satluj Demands Land Allotment and Fair Compensation for Flood-Affected Families in Punjab
Chandigarh, October 23, 2025 – MisI Satluj, a prominent socio-political organisation, has demanded better compensation and allotment of land for families in Punjab who lost their homes and farms to the devastating August floods. The organisation highlighted that nearly 2,500 villages have been affected and crops on 4 lakh acres have been destroyed, leaving thousands of families without viable sources of livelihood.
Ajaypal Singh Brar, president of MisI Satluj, noted that the government and NGOs have provided assistance, but said current compensation efforts are insufficient to address the large-scale damage. He pointed out that people with unregistered (kachi) land are particularly vulnerable, as no official inspection is done and they do not receive compensation despite cultivating such land for generations.
MisI Satluj demanded official registration of kachi lands and compensation for those whose properties were submerged or destroyed. The group also pressed for the government to allot new land to people who lost all holdings to the river, emphasizing the need for immediate state intervention.Education has also suffered in these regions, with damage reported to over 7,000 schools.
MisI Satluj called for waiving admission fees for classes 10 and 12 in the worst-hit areas to ease the burden on affected families. While acknowledging community-led relief efforts in some villages, Brar said government administration should step up and coordinate more effectively to deliver aid. He was joined by relief team leaders Maan Singh Killi, Roman Brar, and Sukhwinder Singh Bhagat Bhai, who echoed the call for urgent action and support for flood-impacted farmers.
