Chandigarh, November 2, 2025: The Chandigarh Press Club has strongly condemned the police action of stopping vehicles carrying newspapers across various districts of Punjab, calling it an attack on press freedom and an attempt to control the free flow of information.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Press Club said that newspaper distribution across the state was severely disrupted due to intensive police checking of vehicles transporting publications. In several cases, delivery vehicles were reportedly taken to police stations, causing harassment to delivery staff and delays in newspaper circulation.
Reports of such incidents were received from multiple districts, including Gurdaspur, Patiala, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, and others, where newspaper distribution was either delayed or completely halted.
“The Chandigarh Press Club condemns these actions in the strongest terms and urges the Punjab Government to immediately intervene, ensure the unhindered distribution of newspapers, and uphold the fundamental right to freedom of the press,” the statement said.
