Holiday Alert! Govt offices, banks, stocks markets to remain closed on Nov 5

New Delhi, November 4, 2025:After a festive October, the month of November begins with another major public holiday. On Wednesday, November 5, government offices, banks, and even stock markets across many parts of the country will remain closed in observance of Guru Nanak Jayanti and Kartik Purnima.
Why the Nationwide Shutdown?
The Central Government has declared November 5 a public holiday to commemorate the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism, which also coincides with the auspicious occasion of Kartik Purnima.
Stock Markets to Remain Shut:
According to the holiday list issued by BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange) and NSE (National Stock Exchange), there will be no trading activity on November 5. Both commodity and currency markets will also remain closed for the day.
Banks Closed in 18 States and Union Territories:
As per the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) official holiday calendar, banking services will be suspended in 18 states and union territories on account of Guru Nanak Jayanti and Kartik Purnima.

- Mizoram
- Arunachal Pradesh
- Nagaland
Essential services such as hospitals, police, and emergency utilities will, however, remain operational as usual.
