Chandigarh, November 11, 2025: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal has strongly reacted to the findings of an Election Commission of India (ECI) probe, which, according to sources, clearly indicates that police cases registered against Akali Dal functionaries ahead of the Tarn Taran bypoll appeared to be motivated and had the potential to interfere with the free and fair conduct of elections.
Citing the ECI-monitored inquiry conducted by a DGP-rank officer, Badal said the report upholds every charge made by the SAD, including motivated arrests, addition of Akali leaders’ names in FIRs at a later stage, and coordinated police action across districts to apprehend party workers in false cases.
“The truth has now been officially revealed. Every allegation we made has been vindicated. It is now clear that Tarn Taran SSP Dr. Ravjot Kaur Grewal and the police force were misused by the Aam Aadmi Party to influence the bypoll,” Badal said in a statement on X (formerly Twitter).
He demanded strict disciplinary action against the suspended SSP and all other officers responsible for these unlawful and politically driven acts.
According to sources cited in the report, the Tarn Taran police did not initially name the arrested SAD functionaries in the FIRs, and their names were added later, suggesting a deliberate attempt to target opposition leaders ahead of the by-election.
